Pour Over Filter - Low Dose

Pour Over Filter - Low Dose

The biggest impact you can have on the amount of caffeine in your cup if by controlling the dose of coffee you use. By making a few small adjustments, you can still brew great coffee using doses as low as 8-12grams.

This is a simple brewing guide for a 1 person pour over filter, using a lower dose of 12 grams. We brewed this using an Orea V4 brewer with fast bottom, a similar recipe would be suitable for other pour over brewers.

Coffee: 12 grams

Grind Size: medium

Water: 200mL

Brew Time: 90-120s

1. Prepare your Orea brewer: Place your pour over brewer on a carafe/mug, on top of your scales. Place a paper filter in the brewer.

2. Weigh and grind coffee: Boil the kettle. Grind 12 grams coffee to a medium grind size (we used 22 clicks on the Comandante). Add the ground coffee to the filter and gently tap to level.

3. Bloom: Start the timer. Pour 40 mL of water (just off the boil) over the grounds to saturate them. Let the coffee bloom for 30 seconds.

4. Brew: Slowly pour the remaining water over the coffee in two equal pours of 80mL at approximately 30 seconds and 1 minute, using a circular motion. Let the water drain through. Enjoy.

Adjustments:

  • If the coffee tastes bitter and/or the brew time was too long, try a coarser grind.
  • If the coffee tastes sour and/or the brew time was too short, try a finer grind.
