Laurina is a rare, naturally low-caffeine variety of the Arabica species, first identified on Réunion Island in the 18th century. Its compact, pointed seeds typically contain just 0.4–0.6% caffeine by weight - significantly lower than standard Arabica - and are prized for their high sweetness and delicate body.
Finca Quebraditas sits high in the hills of Oporapa, Huila - a region known for bright, expressive coffees - and is run by young producer Edinson Argote. Edinson found his way into the world of coffee through work at a local buying station. Cupping became his entry point into the craft, and after years spent refining his skills and leading processing at innovative farms in Cauca, he returned home with a clear ambition: to build something of his own.
Today, Quebraditas is that vision realised. Alongside his family, Edinson cultivates some of Colombia’s most exciting varieties - including this rare Laurina. The thermal-shock washed process preserves the variety’s delicate sweetness while enhancing bright notes, resulting in a cup that’s fruitier than a typical washed Laurina.
Edinson's advanced process for this coffee:
- Selective harvesting of >90% ripe cherry, followed by floating to remove defects.
- 24-hour oxidation in sealed plastic drums for early flavour development.
- Dry pulping, then 18-hour post-pulping oxidation to loosen remaining mucilage.
- Thermal shock washing: a warm 45°C wash to open the parchment.
- Controlled yeast fermentation for 36 hours below 25°C, then a cold 5°C rinse to seal the fermentation.
- Gentle mechanical drying for 76 hours at 38°C.
It's bright and bold with a naturally low caffeine level - an outstanding coffee to be enjoyed any time of day!

What is Lo Caf coffee?
Our Lo Caf coffees are rare coffees that naturally contain less caffeine than typical arabica varieties. Laurina, a low-caffeine arabica variety, usually contains 0.4% to 0.6% caffeine by weight. Aramosa, a hybrid of arabica and the low-caffeine species Coffea Racemosa, typically ranges from 0.6% to 1.0%.
For comparison, most arabica coffees contain 1.4% to 1.6%. These low-caffeine plants are harder to grow—since caffeine helps defend against pests—which makes Lo Caf coffees both distinctive and limited in supply.
For our Lo Caf coffees we lab test our raw (‘green’) coffee for caffeine content before roasting. Testing is conducted using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) – a widely used analytical technique for separating and quantifying compounds in food and drink.

What our customers say about our Lo Caf coffees
They’re “metropolitan millennial problems” for sure but my tastebuds have become pretty “numb” to most coffee varieties these days. My partner works for a roastery, so I’m constantly exposed to a rotation of different coffee varieties, but after a while, they all start to blur together.
But this is the first coffee in a long time that’s actually stood out. Calm has really nailed the story tasting notes, not just for this one but for a couple of others I’ve tried too, because for once, I can actually TASTE what’s been described.
The Daterra is just a gorgeous coffee. It’s smooth, rich, and full of flavor, perfect for an early morning start or a mid-afternoon pick-me-up without the jittery buzz. It really does feel like a treat when I’m setting it up for drinking!
I am loving this coffee at the moment, it tastes beautifully fruity. I have been brewing this with my aromaboy filter brewer and it's the perfect afternoon pick me up without being too much!
A happy compromise for my wife who normally drinks decaf and myself who would opt for full caf. Much better than having to make two brews.
I love this coffee. The beans were perfectly roasted and made a thick crema. We will buy it again.
